High String Chords

On the right are three of the same minor chord

The root of each chord is marked by an X

These chords are all on the bottom three strings: G, B, e

Think of each chord as the chord for the string that the root note X is on

These lines are strings

These rectangles are frets

These letters tell you which string the notes are on

These numbers tell you which frets the notes are on

The root of the chord marked by the X will always be in the same spot for the shape

Because the root is B for the shape on the right, it is a B minor chord

If you move the shape up and down the guitar, the chord will be the note on the B string

The first shape is moved to the left above.
The root note is now A, it is an A minor chord

Think of the chord shape we just looked at as the minor B-string chord

This chord shape can play every chord if you slide it up and down the B-string

The B-string is circled below.
I've circled the original chord and one to try.

First, use the chord shape on the left to play the original chord, and then the one to try.
